Rob Ijbema is busy painting the 2009 Tour de France.  You may recall we featured
his work during the 2009 Giro d'Italia.  If that experience was any indication, his Tour paintings
are going to sell very quickly.  Check them out at his blog, Painting le Tour.  -Pete

2009 Tour de France:  Armstrong is interviewed by Eurosport.  It's up to rivals like the Schleck brothers,
Sastre and Evans to attack but for Astana, who will make a move first, Armstrong or Contador?

2009 Tour de France:  Alberto Contador, the overwhelming favorite by most observers.

2009 Tour de France:  Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank), Cadel Evans (Silence-Lotto) and Carlos Sastre
(Cervelo Test Team) are running out of time.  They have to attack soon or they may be fighting for third or

and Roman Kreuziger (Liquigas) are also in the mix.

- The situation with Astana is fascinating.  Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall of the team bus this morning?  Though it's up to their rivals to attack, Johan Bruyneel teams tend not to sit back and wait for things to happen.  They like to take control.  How about a two-pronged attack, with Armstrong going first on the final climb.  Contador follows wheels of whatever rivals are still in the game, then picks his moment to attack them and bridge up to Armstrong.  (No one likely would be able to follow Contador.)  Then Armstrong and Contador work together to the finish?  Time differences may not be huge on this stage but leaders always like to put time into their rivals and the latter want to make up time.  Will Astana's rivals sit back and watch things unfold or will they try to take the initiative?  The yellow jersey is up for grabs.  Who wants it most today?  -Pete

- First video streams for Stage 15 should be live at around 13:30 CET (7:30am U.S. Eastern).  We'll update with the latest feeds right here as coverage gets underway.

- Interesting stage today.  There may not be big time differences at the finish but it will be interesting to see who attacks and when.  Teammates Armstrong and Contador surely will have an eye on each other.  Who will make a move first?  The Tour won't be won today but it could be over for some.  Mostly the stage should inform us about what we might expect in the days ahead.  Who still has a good shot at winning the race?  -Pete

- Nearly the entire stage today will take place in Switzerland.

2009 Tour of Missouri Live Coverage: Television and Online

The 2009 Tour of Missouri (September 7-13) is a go, so we can begin to look forward to live and delayed coverage options for the race.

In a media conference call today involving Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, Chris Aronhalt (Medalist Sports) and Steve Brunner (King of the Mountain Sports), cyclingfans.com learned that the state of Missouri, and cycling fans, can expect a record amount of Tour of Missouri TV hours: 28 hours of televised coverage.

According to Brunner, 2009 Tour of Missouri coverage can currently be summarized as follows:

- Live streaming video online/webcast

- Live broadcast on Universal Sports

- Tape delay on Versus

- Tape delay on Fox Sports Midwest

We will have more information as available.  cyclingfans.com will of course publish a complete guide to 2009 Tour of Missouri Live Coverage.

Tour of Missouri is a go!  Funding has been restored.

Help Save the Tour of Missouri

A decision is imminent regarding the possible cancellation of the Tour of Missouri.  (Money set aside for the race has been frozen by the administration of Governor Nixon.  Without these funds, the race will cease to exist.)  Cancelling the Tour of Missouri is not only a bad idea for the State of Missouri but also for pro cycling in the U.S.  Click here for more info and to let your voice be heard.  Again, a decision is imminent.

- Wednesday's Tour de France Stage 11 departs Vatan at 12:45 CET (6:45am U.S. Eastern) and is expected in Saint-Fargeau between 17:05 and 17:29 CET (11:05am and 11:29am U.S. Eastern).  Tour de France live coverage on Versus TV is scheduled to begin at 8:30am U.S. Eastern (8:00am U.S. Eastern for the Versus live streaming).  Live coverage on Eurosport is scheduled to begin at 14:15 CET (8:15am U.S. Eastern).

- NEW!  Tour de France Online gameFree to play.  You get to play the directeur sportif.  Create your cycling team, train it and compete against players from all over the world on the official stages of the 2009 Tour de France.  From the makers of Pro Cycling Manager, Tour de France Online 2009 is much more than the typical cycling fantasy league game and they are offering prize money to the winners.  Click banner below or here for more info and to sign up.

- Quote of the day:  "2009 Tour de France like an episode of 'Columbo' where you know the killer in advance, then they reveal how he did it." (Two-time Tour winner Laurent Fignon on France 2)

- Barring a last-minute change due to pressure from a majority of teams, race radios are banned for today's stage (and Friday's).  Riders using radios today can be given warnings or even be kicked out of the race, though surely the latter punishment is unlikely.  They can also be fined.  Race radios were banned for last month's French national road race championships and the Bouygues Telecom team experimented with self-bans of radios last season.  That didn't work out too well for them at the 2008 Tour de Deauville (humor).

- Tour de France Stage 10 departs Limoges at 12:30 CET (6:30am U.S. Eastern) and is expected in Issoudun between 16:59 and 17:25 CET (10:59am and 11:25am U.S. Eastern).  Tour de France live coverage on Versus TV is scheduled to begin at 8:30am U.S. Eastern (8:00am U.S. Eastern for the Versus live streaming).  Live coverage on Eurosport is scheduled to begin at 13:45 CET (7:45am U.S. Eastern).
