Tour de France at a glance: Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) won Stage 15.  Said Mollema after his victory: "This is for sure my biggest win. I just can't believe it! This is what I have worked so hard for the last few years."  Chris Froome (Team Sky) remains leader in the general classification.

Orica-Scott sign Jack Bauer

"Riding for ORICA-SCOTT is a really exciting prospect for me, it was an offer impossible to turn down.  As an Australian team, for me it's the closest thing to riding for an outfit from back home. I know all the boys on the team really well, and have done for quite some years, so it seems like the perfect fit."

Boels-Dolmans wins Vårgårda TTT

August 11, 2017: Chantal Blaak: "This team time trial is very important.  The Worlds course is kind of the same – up and down – and it’s a similar distance. Today was a good test, and the only real test, before Worlds to see what went right and where we need to improve."

Katusha-Alpecin: Ian Boswell first American to join roster

"I am really happy to have Ian Boswell with us. He brings a lot of experience with him and I believe in him. The time has come that Ian can make the shift from his domestique role to one as a leader. The reason why we’ve contracted him is because we trust him. In five years with Team Sky he shown to be reliable, and also in three Grand Tours. In this year’s Tour of California he showed no problem in assuming the role as a leader. We haven’t seen the best of Ian yet. Ian is not only loyal, but strong and promising as well,” said general manager José Azevedo.

Luca Guercilena, General Manager Trek-Segafredo comments on Contador retirement announcement: "It has been an honor to work with such a great champion. Alberto Contador has been showing his fighting spirit and his professionalism all year long. To give you one example, in this year's Tour de France he demonstrated his personal motto in a way we only could admire: 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' Even after the crashes that took him out of the fight for the first places in GC, he kept fighting and battling for a stage win and to move up some places in GC. That showed how strong he is, both mentally and physically."

Alberto Contador Announces Retirement

August 7, 2017: Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo) announced today that he will retire from professional cycling after the upcoming Vuelta a Espana.  Said Contador: "I say this in a happy way, without sadness. I have thought about this decision very well and I don't think there is a better farewell than in my home race in my own country.  I'm sure these will be three wonderful weeks, enjoying all your affection, and I'm eager to take the start.
Greetings and see you all on the road from August 19!"  Cyclingnews has the story here.

SUMMARY: Procyclist, author and "Half The Road" documentary filmmaker
Kathryn Bertine discusses Equality in Women’s Cycling and Sports and New
Pro Women’s Race La Course by Tour de France in Paris July 27, 2014

*On this recent episode of her radio show "A Southwest Spotlight,"
journalist and amateur cyclist Janet Lyn presents a 5-minute, in-depth
interview with Kathryn Bertine, an internationally recognized professional
women’s cyclist, author, speaker, journalist, activist and documentary
filmmaker. Bertine, who was speaking at the 2014 Tour of the Gila
professional cycling race for men and women in Silver City, New Mexico,
USA, discussed how she and several other professional female athletes have
been actively working as longtime advocates for more equality in women’s
pro sports, especially pro cycling. Bertine and her colleagues fought to
obtain a pro cycling race for women at the 2014 Tour de France on July 27,
2014, which will be a 1-day event in Paris, France, called La Course by
Tour de France. That will mark the first time in more than 25 years that
women pro cyclists have had an opportunity to race during Le Tour de
France. Bertine, who began her own cycling racing as an amateur in 2007 at
Tour of the Gila in New Mexico, also was showing the new documentary film
she directed and produced about women’s pro cycling and vying for equality
in the sport, “Half the Road,” which was crowd-sourced and funded by men
and women in at least 16 countries and is now being shown around the
world.
