- Volta a Portugal Stage 10, a 30.8km Individual Time Trial, begins at 14:49 local (9:49am U.S. Eastern) when the first rider, Eloy Teruel (Contentpolis), departs.  The last rider to depart will be race leader Nuno Ribeiro (Liberty Seguros), at 16:40 local (11:40am U.S. Eastern).  Organizers expect riders to complete the course in about 40-42 minutes.  LIVE video coverage should begin at around 16:00 local (11:00am U.S. Eastern).

2009 Volta a Portugal:  Race leader Nuno Ribeiro (Liberty Seguros) won Stage 9.  Going into today's final stage time trial, Ribeiro leads David Bernabeu (Barbot-Siper) by 01:55 in the overall classification.

Leadville 100 video clips

The Leadville 100 race begins at 6:30am MST (8:30am U.S. Eastern or 14:30 CET).  Note that the course record, set last year by Dave Wiens, is 6 hours and 45 minutes.  They are talking about blowing apart that record today so who knows when the winner will cross the line.  But organizers expect the first riders to cross sometime after 12:15pm local time.

The Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race is today and there will be live streaming video.  Local favorite and 6-time champion Dave Wiens of Gunnison, Colorado is back to defend.  You can check out David's website.  Last year's runner-up, 7-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, is also back looking for victory and reportedly has been training hard for this event.  It was at the 2008 Leadville 100 that Armstrong decided he wanted to return to pro bike racing.

Watch Wiens, Armstrong, Chris Carmichael and the other entrants battle it out for the win.

- While we're focusing on Portugal, L'Equipe is reporting that Portuguese rider Sergio Paulinho will join Lance Armstrong's new Team RadioShack in 2010.  A longtime close teammate of Alberto Contador (Liberty Seguros-Wurth, Team Wurth, Discovery Channel, Astana), Paulinho is (or was) without a contract for 2010 and received an offer to join RadioShack next year, according to the French sports daily.  And former USPS/Discovery Channel rider, Jose Azevedo, also of Portugal, reportedly will join RadioShack as a directeur sportif.

- L'Equipe is also reporting that the BMC Racing Team budget will double to $6 million in 2010.  The team is rumored to be interested in signing Levi Leipheimer and George Hincapie.  Note that according to UCI rules, new contract transfers cannot be announced before September 1.  Joining BMC would appear to be a risky move for Leipheimer as the team would have to depend on a wild card in order to compete in the Tour.

outside the church at Bonneval.  Riding at the time for the dominant U.S. domestic team Saturn,
Danielson would soon make a permanent move to Europe, signing with Fassa Bortolo for the 2004 season.

2009 Gran Premio Industria Commercio Artigianato Carnaghese (GP Carnago):  Thumbs up.  Daryl Impey (Barloworld) is glad to be back racing again, in Thursday's GP Carnago.  Impey was knocked out of action in the final stage of April's Tour of Turkey (which he won) when Theo Bos of Rabobank grabbed his jersey in the final sprint and took him down.  (You can view the crash here and here (slow motion).)  Following a review by the UCI, Bos was suspended for one month for his behavior, starting August 15.  Impey is racing in today's GP di Camaiore in Italy.  (See official event poster and link below.)  You can follow Impey's comeback on his website.
