- Someone asked about "CET" vs. "CEST" for Europe times.  Technically, most of Europe is on "CEST" (summer time) but "CET" is the more common designation year-round.  In fact, 20 years in Europe and I've rarely seen people use "CEST".  Most cycling websites also use "CET" year-round, as do our European correspondents.  -Pete

- The Giro del Trentino starts today with a Stage 1 Individual Time Trial. There is no live television coverage but there is a Giro del Trentino live ticker here.

- The 2009 Fleche Wallonne is officially underway with the peloton having just finished riding in the neutral zone in the streets of Charleroi.  The official site ticker is now live.

50th Grand Prix de Denain Thursday

Thursday will see the running of the 50th Grand Prix de Denain (France).  Edvald Boasson Hagen won last year and he is back to defend.  Past winners include Jean Stablinski (1968), Walter Planckaert (1976), Paul Sherwen (1983), Frederic Moncassin (1990, 1991), Jan Kirsipuu (1998, 2001), Thor Hushovd (2004), Jimmy Casper (2005, 2006).

The GP de Denain is the next leg of the Coupe de France following yesterday's Paris-Camembert, won by Casper (Besson-Sojasun).  Casper is overall Cup leader with 85 points, Romain Feillu is in second place with 45 points.  Casper hopes to get his third career victory in Denain (worth 50 points) which would give him a pretty commanding lead in the French Cup.  He already has 4 victories this season, his surprising Besson-Sojasun team, led by manager Stephane Heulot, has 10 victories overall.  There is no live TV coverage for this race.

- The Sportwereld ticker doesn't sit well with full page Google or Babelfish translation.  But you can copy/paste text from the ticker into the Translate text box of Google's Language Tools page.  Select Dutch as your source text, select the language you want it translated to and click the Translate button.

- Sportwereld ticker changed their start time, so looks like they're at least somewhat active from 13:00 CET, 5 minutes ago.

- Looks like the earliest live ticker coverage (on CN) won't get underway until 14:30 CET (8:30am U.S. Eastern).

- Tom Boonen, by raising his arms too early, literally got posterized by Mark Cavendish in this race last year.  In a different manner, Thor Hushovd no doubt got posterized when he overcooked that corner in Paris-Roubaix as Boonen took off. (If you missed it, check out Bernard Papon's photo sequence in yesterday's "Tour de Cycling - Tuesday".)  Cavendish is not back to defend at the GP de l'Escaut as French speakers call it.
