2009 Three Days of De Panne LIVE - Stage 3B

Notes:  (latest notes always appear at the top)

- Watch Stage 3A and 3B video highlights on Sporza here.  (01:25)

- Okay, Sport+ on the TV say they're live.

- Delayed Time Trial coverage on Sport+ has begun.

- Sporza appears to be geo-restricted again, though via Twitter someone tells us that it isn't working for someone else in Belgium either!  TV coverage on Sport+ in France begins at 16:00 CET (10am U.S. Eastern).  In the TV guide, it is listed as live but as we've seen it tends to be 10-25km behind the actual racing.  We hope to have a Sport+ "live" stream when coverage begins.

- De Panne stage 3B, an individual time trial, starts at 14:30 CET (8:30am U.S. Eastern) when the first rider departs.

- We recommend you open our Twitter feed in a separate window now.  If ever we have a server outage, we will update on Twitter and direct you to a live coverage page on another server.

- Welcome to our live coverage guide for the 2009 Three Days of De Panne.  (Also known as Les Trois Jours de La Panne (French) or KBC-Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde (Dutch)).

2009 Three Days of De Panne LIVE - Stage 3A

Notes:  (latest notes always appear at the top)

- This afternoon's Stage 3B individual time trial starts at 14:30 CET (8:30am U.S. Eastern).

- Filippo Pozzato (Katusha) lost 48 seconds held up by one of the crashes in the peloton and fell to second place overall behind Frederik Willems of Liquigas.  The sport.be ticker says that Pozzato has decided to skip this afternoon's time trial and is thus out of the race.  He is a favorite for Sunday's Ronde van Vlaanderen.

- That was a dangerous finishing circuit!  Two Garmin-Slipstream riders hit the same flower pot on consecutive trips around the circuit.  Unbelievable.  The first one was Svein Tuft, who appeared to be okay.  UK correspondent Bernie S. writes: "I dont think a guy like Svein Tuft who lived with just his dog in the Canadian wilderness is going to worry too much about falling over road furniture."  The second Garmin rider to hit the "road furniture" was announced on Sport+ as Michael Friedman.  He seemed okay.  Surely it wasn't Tuft again?

- The Sport+ commentators are Frédéric Brindelle and Cyrille Guimard (color).  Guimard is a former pro rider but best known as a very successful directeur sportif for cycling greats such as Bernard Hinault, Laurent Fignon, Lucien Van Impe and Greg LeMond.  He signed LeMond to his first pro contract and was also with Cofidis when they signed Lance Armstrong following Motorola's exit from the sport.

- Not quite live.  Looks like the Sport+ coverage is about 11+km behind the actual race.

- Stage 3A LIVE now on Sport+ (France).

- Sporza appears to be geo-restricted to Belgium again today.  We think there may be another live video feed starting at 11:00 CET (5am U.S. Eastern).   -Bernie S.

- According to the Google-translated ticker, Mark Cavendish may be doing the dishes this morning.  -Pete

- Today's morning stage 3A departed De Panne at 9:10 CET (3:10am U.S. Eastern) and is expected back at the finish in De Panne between 11:44 and 12:11 CET (5:44am and 6:11am U.S. Eastern).  The afternoon stage 3B, an individual time trial, starts at 14:30 CET (8:30am U.S. Eastern) when the first rider departs.  Three Days of De Panne live video coverage on cycling.tv is scheduled to begin at 10:00 CET (4am U.S. Eastern) for stage 3A and at 14:25 CET (8:25am U.S. Eastern) for stage 3B.  The Sporza schedule lists the same start times as CTV for both stages.

- We recommend you open our Twitter feed in a separate window now.  If ever we have a server outage, we will update on Twitter and direct you to a live coverage page on another server.

- De Panne LIVE now on Sport+Correction: Coverage is not live, it is roughly 25km behind the actual race.

- Sporza should have been live by now.  So either they are having technical problems or the feed is now geo-restricted for this race.  It won't be any consolation to those of you waiting but CTV is blocked here in France and coverage on French TV (Sport+) doesn't begin until 16:00 CET (10am U.S. Eastern).  We continue to monitor Sporza and will also see if there is a live stream for Sport+ when the television coverage begins.

- Time posted on Sporza live video page may be in error.  Elsewhere on their site, they say coverage begins each day at 14:25 CET.  Stay tuned.

- Three Days of De Panne LIVE now on cycling.tv.

- Three Days of De Panne Stage 2 departs Zottegem at 11:20 CET (5:20am U.S. Eastern) and is expected at the finish in Koksijde (Oostduinkerke) between 16:17 and 17:10 CET (10:17am and 11:10am U.S. Eastern).  Live video streaming on cycling.tv and on Sporza is scheduled to begin at 14:00 CET (8am U.S. Eastern).

2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships Live Coverage

The 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships are being held in Pruszkow, Poland, March 25-29.  There is worldwide television coverage but much of it appears to be limited to highlights or partial weekend coverage.  Eurosport, the BBC, and TVP Sport (Poland) stand out for what looks like significant live coverage of the events.  We are on the look-out for anyone providing live streaming video over the internet and will post what we find.

2009 Critérium International Official Poster

The 2009 Critérium International is this weekend, with as usual a stage for the sprinters on Saturday followed on Sunday by a morning stage for the climbers in the hills of the Ardennes and an afternoon stage for the time trialists.  Once again, the racing takes place to and around the city of Charleville-MézièresJens Voigt will be going for a record 5th victory in this event.

a record 5th victory this weekend

This is one of my favorite events to cover as a cycling photographer because it has a little of everything packed into 3 stages on a weekend.  If the weather is nice, which it rarely is, it can make for a very spectator-friendly weekend in the French Ardennes.  But a little rain doesn't hurt and if you're visiting the area, the place to stay is in the village of Revin where you can reach the Mont Malgré-Tout climb (the riders go by twice in the Sunday morning stage) in just minutes by foot from your hotel room.  Alas, live coverage is limited as even in France the Saturday stage is not live on French TV; only the Sunday afternoon Time Trial is being broadcast live this year.  If we find a live stream, we'll post it.  Race organizer A.S.O. typically has a live ticker for each stage but at this time it is unclear if they will even have that this year.  We'll post what we find tomorrow.  Oh, and Stage 1 Saturday departs Monthois at 12:15 CET (7:15am U.S. Eastern).  -Pete
